MLE Gives Back

A message from our Founder and CEO …

When I started MLE in 2008, my mission was to help. I wanted to help my fellow horse professionals build better businesses. And that is just what we’ve done. We fill in the gaps where our clients need us most, and help them thrive in an often unpredictable industry.

As I was starting to build the business, I was also looking for ways to give back. My parents instilled the importance of volunteerism and charitable giving in me from a young age. I remember putting an envelope in the donation basket each Sunday at church. And I remember going with my dad to volunteer during Christmas in April each spring. In his retirement my dad volunteers at minimum twice a week with organizations that are close to his heart.

When people ask me about MLE’s small acts of charity, I simply answer: What’s the point of building a business if you can’t give back to the community around you. I am a firm believer that every $1 makes a difference, and want this page to highlight some of the organizations that we have aligned with over recent years.

Ways to give back...

Little Free Pantry

The Little Free Pantry is a grassroots movement focused on community-based food sharing. Inspired by the Little Free Library model, these pantries are small outdoor cabinets or boxes stocked with nonperishable food, hygiene items, and household essentials that are freely available to anyone in need—no questions asked.

We have a Little Free Pantry at our Mount Airy location, and welcome donations year-round.

One Warm Coat

One Warm Coat is a U.S.-based nonprofit that collects and distributes free coats to people in need. It works through coat drive organized by schools, businesses (such as MLE), community groups, and individuals. The coats are given out locally through partner agencies such as shelters, social service organizations and community centers.

Strides for Equality Equestrians

Strides for Equality Equestrians (aka SEE) is an allyship initiative launched in 2020 that addresses the lack of racial and ethnic diversity within the equestrian world. Its mission is to encourage equestrians to actively promote equality and inclusions—“not quietly, not anonymously … but proudly and loudly.”

MLE directly sponsors SEE’s Professional Pathways Q&A online article series authored by Helen Casteel. You can find these articles on their website blog: https://www.stridesforequality.org/blog
