August may be known for the dog days of summer, but Team MLE certainly wasn’t slowing down.

From the eventing at Fair Hill, Waredaca, Five Points, and Bouckaert Equestrian International to the hunter and jumper rings at HITS and Morven Park, Team MLE spent the month putting in strong performances across the disciplines.

This Month’s Highlights

We kicked the month off with Fair Hill International H.T. (August 8th-9th) in Elkton, MD, where MLE Intern Nicola Villarino on What the Devil, owned by Caitlin and Shannon O’Roark, placed 4th in Novice Rider.

In the meantime at the Morven Park Summer Show Series II in Leesburg, VA, Martin Douzant of The Frame Sport Horses had successful trips on: Peyton Major’s Motor Skills placed 1st in the Sunday Mini Jumper; Gina Cotto’s Top Touch placed 1st and 4th in the Sunday Mini Jumper; and Lucia Hamner’s Supervillian placed 3rd in the Sunday Hopeful Jumper.  

The following week brought some great results too. 

At HITS Winston National (August 12th-16th) in Culpeper, VA, Martin Douzant of The Frame Sport Horses finished 2nd in the 1.15m Jumper on Erin Durst and Marsha Spencer’s Justified.

At Waredaca Farm Horse Trials (August 15th-16th) in Laytonsville, MD, Martin Douzant and Frame Nantucket S finished 4th in Open Training, while Supervillian took 3rd in Open Novice. The Frame’s Assistant Barn Manager and Rider Alese Rinker and her own Maestro FSCH finished 2nd in Open Beginner Novice.

Katie Wherley of Katie Wherley Equestrian and Grateful Heart finished 8th in the Open Preliminary after some time away from the competition arena.

Week 3 was very busy at HITS Constitution Classic (August 19th-23rd) in Culpeper, VA.

The Frame Sport Horses’ Joe DeSantis earned top finishes aboard a talented group of horses, including wins with Crackaroo Z, owned by Lu Anne Novello, and Jocelyn Arel’s Valko Van de Ceia, plus podium finishes aboard N-Call Me Captain HH, owned by Elizabeth Houtsma, and Neyla SR, owned by Kali Barnes.

Madison Solosi and Tomano TF earned multiple top-ten finishes across the 2’9″ and 3′ Hunter divisions.

Rolling Acres Show Stables also had an impressive week. Mary Lisa Leffler and Gentleman Jack earned two second-place finishes at 1.20m, while Mary Lisa and Mila Lieberman’s Koraline finished 2nd in the $2,500 USHJA Jr/Am National Hunter Derby. Oopsala and Mary Lisa capped off the week with a win in the $24,000 Purina Animal Nutrition Open Prix – 1.40m. Rolling Acres Barn Manager Addie Jabin and her own Newmarket Touchstone added several top-five finishes in the Amateur Jumper divisions and the $2,000 The League/WIHS/NAL/Jr/Am 1.15m Jumper Classic.

And Team MLE wasn’t finished yet.

At Five Points H.T. in Raeford, NC, Martin Douzant and Justified finished 3rd in the Open Intermediate.

At Bouckaert Equestrian International in Fairburn, GA,, Kim Severson of Severson Eventing and Bill and Ros Johnson’s Cooley Corraghy Diamond delivered a standout performance to win the CCI4* S.

Team MLE closed out August with another impressive weekend of results across eventing, hunters, and jumpers.

At the American Eventing Championships (August 26-30) in Lexington, KY, Martin Douzant piloted Lucia Hamner’s Supervillian to a 2nd place finish in the Beginner Novice Horse Championship.

At Seneca Valley Pony Club “Fall” Horse Trial Katie Wherley and Grateful Heart Placed 4th in the Open Preliminary. 

Last but not least at Swan Lake Quintin Fall Classic in Littlestown, PA, Mary Lisa Leffler and When In Rome owned by Heather Bamford placed 2nd in the 2’9” USHJA Hunter O/F. Mary Lisa and Gentleman Jack won the $500 1.20m Open Jumper and placed 2nd in the $2500 Open Speed 1.25m-1.30m Table III. Oopsala and Mary Lisa placed 4th in the $15,000 Quentin Fall Prix 1.30m-1.35m. Ashley Worthington of Rolling Acres Show Stables placed 1st and 2nd on Honesty owned by Mila Lieberman in the $150 Green Hunter O/F and 2nd twice in the $100 Green Hunter O/F. Ashley also walked away with two blue ribbons on Granit owned by Down the Line Equine LLC., in the 2’/2’3” USHJA Hunter O/F. She also rode Redfield Farm’s Kensington HX to the 1st place finish in the 1.0m Jumper.

Different disciplines. Different levels. Different goals. But one very busy and very successful August.
