I often wonder if horses understand what an impact they have on the people around them. Brandenburg’s Joshua was one of the greats, and while I was so sad to write this obituary for him, I was also happy to have the opportunity to pay tribute to him. One of the very cool parts of my job is getting to work with some pretty incredible individuals. I remember growing up and watching Stephen S. Bradley Eventing compete with his two bay boys, From and Brandenburg’s Joshua. I had such a crush on both, and it definitely was the start of my obsession with bay Thoroughbreds. Josh in particular seemed like such a cool dude, while From appeared to be more of the showman. I grew up and was lucky to get to know Stephen better, first as a clinician, then as an instructor and client. So when Josh came back to live with him in Virginia, I was so happy to finally get to meet my crush and stuff him full of apples and tell him just how wonderful he was. One of the absolute highlights of my year, and I am so glad I was able to spend a little time with this great horse and tell him how much he meant to me.
